  • The Nomination Committee informs that in the elections the following persons have been elected to serve as Chapter officers for the term 2013:

  • On November 2012 the Executive Committee decided to conduct ballot for Chapter officer positions for the 2013 term.
    The ballot procedure is described in the Bylaws accessible on the Chapter web page (Bylaws tab).

    The folowing Chapter members have been appointed to serve as members of Nomitation Committee:

    1. Leszek Klukowski, Systems Research Institute, Polish Academy of Science, Warsaw, Poland,

    2. Wojtek Michalowski, Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Kanada,

    3. Wlodzimierz Ogryczak, Faculty of Electronics and Information Technology, The Technical University of Warsaw, Warsaw, Poland.

    According to the Bylaws candidates for each office are selected by the Nomination Committe or by five Chapter members by petition send to the Chairperson. Since there is a vacancy on the position of Chairperson, this time petitions should be send (by electronic mail) to any officer - Tomasz Szapiro Tadeusz Trzaskalik Ignacy Kaliszewski - cc to the other two officers.

    Dates:
    1. selection of candidates - BY DECEMBER 10, 2012,
    2. anouncment of candidates - DECEMBER 11, 2012,
    3. ballot - BY DECEMBER 20, 2012,
    4. anouncment of ballot results - BY DECEMBER 22, 2012.

    Ballot:
    by sending by electronic mail the filled ballot sheet (available on the Chapter web page) to all three members of the Nomination Committe containing:
    1. (if not void) given name and surname of 1 person from the list of persons nominated for the position of the Chairperson,
    2. (if not void) given names and surnames of up to 3 persons from the list of persons nominated for the position of Vice-chairperson,
    3. (if not void) given name and surname of 1 person from the list of persons nominated for the position of Secretary/Treasurer.

  • Hsu_Shih SHIH In October during a scientific visit to Taiwan the Chapter Secretary Ignacy Kaliszewski met the Secretary of the Taiwanise Chapter of INFORMS Hsu-Shih SHIH (Professor at the Tamkang University). They exchanged views and experiences on chapters activities and agreed on information exchange.

  • We regret to inform you that on 23th April the Chairman of our Section,
    prof. dr hab. inż. Jerzy Hołubiec, passed away.

    Jerzy Hołubiec was founding member of the INFORMS Polish Chapter and its long-term chairman.

    He worked in succession in the scientific institutions of the Polish Academy of Sciences: the Institute of Automatics, the Institute of Applied Cybernetics, The Institute of Organization and Management, the Systems Research Institute in which in years 1983 – 1992 he was the Deputy Director for Science and from 1998 to date he was the head of PhD programme.

    In the years 1974-1978 Jerzy Hołubiec was Deputy Director of the Scientific Center of the Polish Academy of Science in Rome, Italy.

    Jerzy Hołubiec was also an accomplished collector and world-renown expert in the history of lamps and chandeliers.

    Skillful organizer, good fellow. He will be deeply missed by the Chapter members.

  • On September 19, 10:00am, a joint session of the INFORMS Polish Chapter and the MODEST group will take place. The session is hosted by the conference BOS'08.
    During the session Ms Magda Gajownik, Advisor in the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Poland for Science and Innovation, will deliver a speach: "Technology transfer - how they do this in Great Britain?"

  • Moving Spirit Award for the Secretary of INFORMS Poland Chapter
    "Dear Colleagues,
    I am pleased to inform you that our colleague, Ignacy Kaliszewski, has been awarded by Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences with the Moving Spirit Award for his contribution to create in 1994 the Polish Chapter and continuous efforts for the benefit of its members."

    Dr hab. inż. Ignacy Kaliszewski is the Secretary of INFORMS Polish Chapter. He is a longstanding researcher in the Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences, at present at the position of docent.
    Reacting to this distinction Ignacy Kaliszewski said: ''I accept gladly this Award as a form of acknowledgment of efforts of all Polish Chapter officers to promote The Science of Better''.

    The Science of Better is the buzzword of the fulfledged promotion campaign run presently by INFORMS
